Wollongong Local Housing Strategy adopted

News out of Wollongong is that the Local Housing Strategy has been adopted by Council. The Strategy was approved with minor amendments following its November/December 2022 consultation round (during which we put in this submission to Wollongong City Council).

Wollongong LGA features again in our top 11 LGAs of highest housing need in our latest Regional Housing Report. A Local Housing Strategy has been a long-time coming and not without its controversies, but we are hopeful that the actions committed to in the Strategy will bring about real change for low-income households, renters, and homeless people doing it tough in the region. We are particularly emboldened by this snippet out of the Council business papers tabling the Strategy for adoption:

Note that Wollongong’s Housing Strategy employs the language of “lobbying” Treasury and LAHC – now that’s something we can get behind!
