Accessing Social Housing
  • Social housing is made up of two types of housing, government run public housing and not for profit community housing
  • Public housing in NSW is managed by the NSW State Government ‘Homes NSW’
  • If you need to apply for Housing you can apply here
  • You can also apply over the phone. Call the Housing Contact Centre on 1800 422 322, Monday to Friday: between 9am and 5pm to complete your form.
Accessing Community Housing
  • Community housing is managed by not-for-profit organisation.
  • People who are eligible for public housing are also eligible for community housing.
  • You can apply for Community Housing here
  • Or you can contact individual Community Housing Organisations.
Accessing Homelessness Services
  • Specialist homelessness services can help women, men, young people, families, Aboriginal people and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. If you need to access a homelessness support service you can find one by area at the following link: https://www.facs.nsw.gov.au/housing/help/ways/services
  • You can also ring the Housing Contact Centre Phone: 1800 422 322, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or Link2home Homelessness Phone: 1800 152 152 24 hours per day / 7 days per week. Open every day of the year.

Useful apps you can download. All are available either on Google Play or Apple Store
  • ABC Listen – this supports emergency management but is also the generic ABC app. It has podcasts, live radio and audiobooks
  • Australian Red Cross – Get Prepared – this is an easy-to-use app that empowers people to make important decisions ahead of time by completing your RediPlan. Co-created by Australian Red Cross and NRMA Insurance, it helps you create a personal emergency plan, so you can take care of yourself, your loved ones, and what’s important to you.
  • BOM Weather – check weather forecasts and warnings
  • Emergency Plus – The Emergency+ app is a free app developed by Australia’s emergency services and their government and industry partners. The app uses GPS functionality built into smart phones to help a Triple Zero (000) caller provide critical location details required to mobilise emergency services.
  • First Aid IFRC – this has been created by The Global First Aid Reference Centre (GFARC), with the French Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Customised by the Australian Red Cross for evidence-based first aid advice relevant to Australians.â€Ŋ
  • Hazards Near Me NSW – allows you to set up a ‘watch zone’ to receive notifications on changing conditions
  • Live Traffic NSW – assists in planning trips and identifies hazards
  • NSW SES Hazards Watch – Hazards Near Me shows current information about local emergencies, including floods, bushfire and tsunamis, and advice on what to do to stay safe. The app can send you push notifications when there are new incidents or when information changes.
  • RFS Fires Near Me – this app provides an overview of any fires, including planned burn-offs across the state. It can be set to specific locations
  • Willy Weather – delivering accurate local weather, from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology and other weather providers.
Specific LGA have been identified as being a risk of flood or bush fires.
  • Bushfires: Blue Mountains, Eurobodalla, Central Coast, Lake Macquarie, Shoalhaven and Bega.
  • Floods: Lismore, Ballina, Byron Shire, Tweed, Hawkesbury Nepean, Clarence Valley, Coonamble
  • Vulnerable to heat waves impacts: Walgett, Brewarrina, Bourke, Cobar and Carrathool.
