In some promising news out of Tamworth Regional Council, a motion was put forward (and carried!) last month by First Nations Cr Marc Sutherland for Council to flesh out an Implementation Plan for localised Closing The Gap strategies. Housing rates a brief mention in the motion and we are hopeful that the Implementation Plan will include specific targets to increase the number and maintenance of social and affordable housing properties set aside for First Nations households in the LGA.

Tamworth has previously been identified in our Regional Housing Need report as an LGA of concern, so we will be monitoring what happens with this story and if other Councils adopt the same line of thinking.
