Sydney Alliance

Hosting the Sydney Alliance

During the last week of January, we were very pleased to host two important events on behalf of the Sydney Alliance. In partnership with Western Sydney University, the Alliance has again had the opportunity to support 35 social work students who are completing their placement requirements. As part of their induction, the new Assistant Organisers spent an afternoon at our offices, hearing about the work we do and how they can be involved in housing advocacy during their placement and as qualified social workers in future. We’re looking forward to working together over the next few months and are excited to see what they can achieve in 500 hours of placement!

We also had the opportunity to host the Summer Council Meeting of the Sydney Alliance (pictured above), where important discussions were held and decisions were made about the future of our collective organising work. The Alliance Council meets every quarter, and with an election in March and a major action later this month, this was an incredibly important quarter.

The NSW Treasurer Matt Kean, Shadow Treasurer Daniel Mookhey, and representatives from the crossbench have confirmed their attendance. These are the leaders who will be making key budgetary and policy decisions on the things that matter most to us. Join hundreds on the night as we unite on issues of energy costs, a fairer housing system, and a safe climate. We’re aiming to bring a delegation of as many Shelter NSW representatives as possible!
