Shelter NSW’s strategic alignment with the Australasian Housing Institute

Shelter NSW works collaboratively with various organisations that provide training at a national level. This includes having had AHURI join National Shelter as a Council member, all the way through to John Engeler, Shelter NSW CEO, having been elected as the NSW Director for the Australasian Housing Institute (ahi:).

The NSW branch of ahi: is arguably one of its more active members, enabling Shelter NSW to collaborate in joint events, programs, and outwardly focused opportunities such as International Women’s Day and, and more recently, at a post-Homelessness Week event held at NSW Parliament which Shelter NSW proudly sponsored and supported (pictured below).

Shelter NSW CEO John Engeler facilitated a panel session exploring how preventative approaches could be a key response to homelessness. The panel included Rose Jackson MLC, Minister for Housing, Rebecca Pinkstone, CEO Homes NSW, Jayde Ward from JBWere, Yumi Lee from Older Women’s Network NSW, and Caroline Gurney from Future Generation.

Shelter NSW is pleased that ahi: endorsed a specific board member, Adell Hyslop, as ahi: Director – Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander. Shelter NSW CEO and our members were especially saddened to see the departure of Kellie Dunn, CEO of ahi:, after 5 years. Kellie did an amazing job after stepping up from the training and development role to be a most enthusiastic CEO and we wish her well in her new role in women’s health in regional Victoria. Shelter NSW is pleased to welcome the new CEO, Michael Linke, who has worked previously for the Australian Institute of Architects, as he begins his new role early December. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with the ahi: and strategically engaging with their excellent training opportunities.
