Shelter NSW supports better housing and planning outcomes for local Aboriginal communities across NSW

Shelter NSW continues to support the delivery of better housing and planning outcomes for Aboriginal communities across NSW. We do this through our involvement in the delivery of Sydney University land use planning lectures to student planners on the impact of planning decision on NSW Local Aboriginal Land Councils (LALC).

We consistently advocate for a percentage of new dwellings on Government-owned redevelopment sites to include an allocation of homes for Aboriginal people, a recent example being the Waterloo south redevelopment project.

Shelter NSW continues to evaluate and advocate on the key reforms from the NSW Minister’s Round table for the Aboriginal Housing sector.

We support the NSW Department of Planning Industry and Environmental ‘Roads to Home’ program in delivering essential infrastructure to distinct Aboriginal communities across NSW that will support opportunities for the delivery of new housing.
