Severe Overcrowding Research launch – Shelter NSW Members’ meeting

Thank you to everyone who joined us last month for our most recent Members Meeting. Our newly released research into severe overcrowding in South Western Sydney is now available on our website in full – you can read the report prepared by Judith Stubbs & Associates here, and we encourage everyone to share it amongst your own networks.

Severe overcrowding is a rapidly growing but under-researched form of homelessness in NSW. This meeting was a great opportunity to discuss the research and its findings, including personal testimonies from people affected by this issue. The stories of families, older women, migrants and many other people who are struggling to find safe and secure housing in Southwest Sydney were a sobering reminder of the urgency of this work. No one chooses to live in severely overcrowded conditions, and it is incumbent upon all levels of government to ensure that effective solutions are found to this deepening crisis.

If you would like to attend future Members Meetings, we strongly encourage you to sign up to become a member now! Members will receive an invitation to upcoming meetings a few weeks before the event, as well as access to the recordings of previous Members Meeting sessions on request.

If you would like to discuss this work with us or get involved in our active campaigns pushing for social and affordable housing and renters’ rights, please contact our Membership & Engagement Coordinator via email – james@shelternsw.org.au.
