Putting housing on the Council’s agenda!

Shelter NSW Local Housing Forum recap

It was fantastic to see over 130 people on our screens for our Local Housing Forum on October 14th, discussing how Councils can deliver stronger outcomes on affordable housing for their communities. We hope it inspired everyone to get curious about, or active in, their own Local Council elections! It was great to be joined by more than 10 current Councillors or candidates in the upcoming elections, as well as a number of Council staff from different LGAs across NSW. We look forward to developing these relationships over the next few months as we find ways to deliver stronger housing outcomes for communities across the state.

For anyone who is interested in reviewing the content that was covered in the session, or who couldn’t make it on the night, a recording of the full session can be found here: Local Housing Council Election Forum – Shelter NSW, Oct 2021.
Feel free to share or distribute as you like – this was an open meeting after all, and the more people that can learn about affordable housing solutions, the better!

If you are keen to get involved in local housing advocacy prior to the Council elections in December, we would also encourage you to take part in the local organising campaigns being led by the Sydney Alliance across 8 different LGAs in Sydney, and more in the Hunter region through the Hunter Community Alliance. There is more information on these campaigns on each organisation’s website.

Policy Officer, Stefanie Matosevic, presents to the Shelter NSW Local Housing Forum

We are excited to see how we can deliver forums like this in future for other topics or campaigns. If you have ideas, please get in touch to let us know or sign up to be a Shelter NSW Member (if you aren’t one already). Our Members have the opportunity to participate in quarterly members meetings similar to this every few months, and get access to a range of helpful materials and regular updates about our work.
