Landcom is ramping up its presence in regional NSW and promising to deliver more diverse, affordable, and universally-accessible homes. One such location that looks to benefit from a joint-Council/Landcom project is Orange, NSW.
Orange City Council had recently placed on exhibition its strategic policy for the Redmond Place Precinct, a vast-tract of greenfield Council-owned land in south-east Orange which will (hopefully) break the mold of the usual private-developer led approaches to greenfield estate development, by partnering with State Developer, Landcom.
The prospects for this site are considered a âwinâ by the State Government, and even rates a mention in the recent Budget Papers as evidence of things being done differently in the regions. Whilst this may be true, there is still room for improvement in how these Council-owned pockets of land can be maximised to deliver a robust increase in social and Affordable Housing. In particular, we lament the specific exclusion of âpublic housingâ and silence on âsocial housingâ provision in the draft Redmond Place Precinct Strategic Policy.
