NSW makes historic rental reform

We would like to congratulate the Minister for Better Regulation and Fair Trading, The Hon. Anoulack Chanthivong MP and his department, for the passing of the Residential Tenancies Amendment Bill 2024, the most significant rental reforms in over a decade in the NSW Parliament.

This was made possible by the collective efforts of the first NSW Rental Commissioner, Trina Jones and Tenants’ Union of NSW and especially CEO Leo Patterson Ross and Policy and Advocacy Manager Jemima Mowbray for their tireless advocacy and civic society organisations like Sydney Alliance and Better Renting for making this bill what it was.

Special thanks to Minister Rose Jackson for her continued work and advocacy in the housing space, and other supportive State political representatives including Jenny Leong MP, Greens Spokesperson for Housing, Alex Greenwich MP for Sydney and Phil Donato MP for Orange,

We’re excited to continue working with our sector and civic society colleagues towards the sound implementation of these reforms. As our CEO noted recently increasingly renters are left with few choices, many set to rent for life. Improving the security for renters is critical.
