National Shelter Council goes to Canberra

Shelter NSW CEO is proud to Chair the National Shelter council – a leadership body made up of representatives from across the broader housing system. The Council recently met in Canberra and through the exemplary work of Emma Greenhalgh, CEO of National Shelter heard from speakers from all major political parties and independent; unions; industry bodies and  government departments.

Front of mind for all discussions was the plight of low income people living in an unaffordable and insecure housing system

The National Shelter Council is made up of representatives from across the broader housing system:

  • all Shelter bodies across the country (except Victoria which does not currently have its own Shelter)
  • the National Association of Renters Organisations
  • Community Housing Industry Association (National)
  • National, Rights and Inclusion Australia
  • National Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Housing Association
  • St Vincent de Paul National Council
  • Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute
  • Community Housing Ltd.

Pictured is Dr Helen Haynes (Independent Federal Member for Indi) who was especially impressed with the brains trust, as she called it, in the room of committed housing advocates.
