Local Government Elections September 14 – getting organised with the Sydney Alliance

In the midst of a housing crisis, we need leaders at all levels of government to focus on solving it.
Right across Sydney teams of local leaders are readying themselves to hold actions ahead of Council elections – holding candidates accountable for responses to community asks on Affordable Rental Housing and other issues.

A major part of our work at Shelter NSW recently, has been to help local leaders learn more about their Council’s role in shaping planning policy and delivering Affordable Rental Housing. We’ve been proud to assist with teams in Hornsby, Cumberland, Canterbury-Bankstown, Sutherland, Ku-ring-gai, Camden, Campbelltown, Blacktown (pictured here) and Parramatta. Our Membership & Engagement Coordinator James has been coordinating our work on this, facilitating meetings and workshops across the city to upskill local residents and plan for powerful community actions.

If you live in one of the LGAs mentioned above and want to get involved, please register on the Sydney Alliance website to attend the relevant session. If you’d like to take a more active role in a local team, let us know and we can put you in contact.

Just email james@shelternsw.org.au. You can find the list of all upcoming community forums herePlease register if you’d like to get involved in an action in your area!
