Shelter NSW CEO John Engeler was very pleased to host Rose Jackson MLC, Minister for Housing and Homelessness and his sector colleagues as the Minister formally launched the Homelessness Innovation Fund (HIF) earlier this week. 

John’s quote above, supports the NSW Government’s assessment that the over-reliance on hotel and motel-type accommodation is an expensive and sub-optimal government response. Having vulnerable people cycling through accommodation that is clearly not designed for their needs or circumstances is not the best way to support and transition people out of homelessness, into the security of a home. 

$100 million has been allocated to the HIF, with $30 million provisioned for 2024/25. Please access this document for information about eligibility and timelines for the program.
