Healthy Homes for Renters

“You shouldn’t have to choose between heating for bone chilling days in winter or air conditioning for more frequent and severe heatwaves in summer – but that’s exactly what I was forced to do”.

This was the opening line of a published article penned by one of our staff members (Kayla) as part of the Better Renting summer campaign. That campaign tracks data on indoor temperatures and relative humidity levels in homes to provide evidence on the need for national minimum insulation and appliance standards in rentals.

Kayla’s December 2021 opinion piece on the dual impacts of climate change and inadequate rental accommodation from the perspective of living in regional NSW was circulated amongst 15+ regional newspapers, including this free-to-read version from The Canberra Times.

More information about Better Renting and signing the Healthy Homes For Renters petition can be found here. There’s also a Summer Survey that everyone is encouraged to fill in (renters and non-renters alike) and it only takes 5 minutes complete.
