Defending Public Housing Communities

Rally for Housing Justice – Join us this Saturday Feb 11 at Town Hall!

All across Sydney, public housing is under threat from sell-offs and redevelopment while the private market gets more unaffordable by the day. But residents are standing up to fight back, and we at Shelter NSW are proud to stand in support!

From Glebe to Eveleigh, Erskineville, Waterloo, and Redfern, tenants have been organising for a better deal for years. They’ve pushed for more and better-quality public housing, for tenants’ rights to fair rent and timely repairs, and for real engagement from government about the decisions that impact their community.

It’s time to take this campaign city-wide! Join us this Saturday Feb 11 at Town Hall alongside Action for Public Housing, Hands off Glebe, Friends of Erskineville, the Tenants’ Union of NSW and other organisations to Rally for Housing Justice Now! Click ‘going’ on the Facebook event now and invite your friends to spread the word.

Save our homes! Community BBQ in Waterloo

Thanks to Action for Public Housing and everyone who came out on Sunday 29th February for the community BBQ to Save Waterloo. We were very proud to supply the BBQ and food for this event, and to have the opportunity to gather with dozens of passionate local residents and activists who are leading the fight to save our city’s public housing.

It was inspiring to hear from tenants, politicians, and supporters alike about the importance of inner-city public housing which is currently under threat. Redevelopment can seriously impact the lives of tenants and displace whole communities, and without a strong commitment to building more and better public housing, the NSW Government is failing our communities. To stop the sell-offs and demand a better deal, join us at the Feb 11 Rally for Housing Justice, and share the event with friends!
