Shelter NSW has recently provided a written response to the Draft Burwood North Precinct Masterplan. The Masterplan sets out the strategic vision to help shape the future renewal of the northern edge of the Burwood LGA over the next 15 – 20 years. The precinct is significant given its position on Parramatta Road and for the Metro West station being built within its boundaries.
People will be aware of the NSW Government’s announcements regarding the rezoning of a large number of transport hubs, including Metro stations (see earlier story). We noted with some interest that this Burwood North Metro station was not on the list – unlike the neighbouring Bays West Metro Station.
Shelter NSW’s submission welcomes the introduction of an Affordable Housing Contribution Scheme as a first of its kind in Burwood. However, we are calling for the planning controls for affordable housing provision within Burwood North to be considered against the affordable housing requirements proposed for other Metro and heavy rail stations undergoing accelerated renewal.
