Birribee Housing secures Tier 1 Status: Congratulations from Shelter NSW

Shelter NSW would like to extend its congratulations to Birribee Housing on becoming the second Aboriginal-controlled community housing provider to achieve Tier 1 status, as recognised by National Regulatory System Community Housing.

Achieving Tier 1 status is a recognition of the capacity of Birribee Housing to manage a large portfolio of social and affordable housing, undertake complex development projects, and access private finance and leverage assets. It is built on the work it has undertaken to provide a First Nations-led response approach to housing and homelessness, growing to accommodate over 500 households, as well as providing additional services through homelessness programs and participation in estate renewal projects.

Aboriginal-controlled CHPs play a vital role in providing culturally safe housing solutions to First Nations communities and we at Shelter NSW take heart in seeing Birribee grow to meet this need. With Tier 1 status now secured, Birribee will have better access to growth opportunities, including broader borrowing abilities.

Well done to Paul Coe, Birribee Housing CEO – and valued Shelter NSW Board member – and the Birribee Housing team!
