Researchers want to hear from you.

The long-standing ‘Poverty and Inequality Partnership’ between ACOSS and UNSW Sydney is seeking participants for a new research project exploring what poverty and disadvantage look like in people’s everyday lives, and how these experiences change over time. The study will follow participants through to 2031, with interviews in 2026, 2028 and 2030, alongside occasional photographs about everyday life.

The Partnership has been an important source of evidence on poverty and inequality in Australia since 2017, combining academic research with policy development and advocacy. Our team at Shelter NSW draws on its research and data in our own advocacy and policy work, including to understand housing-related disadvantage, the contribution of housing insecurity and housing stress to poverty (including in our latest research developed in partnership with NCOSS, ‘Voices of Poverty’) and to develop recommendations for all levels of government to reduce and alleviate poverty that are rooted in the experiences of people living in poverty themselves.

We encourage Shelter NSW members, friends and networks to share this opportunity with people who may be interested. Participants must be aged 18 or over, currently living in Australia, and have experienced poverty or disadvantage within the past five years.
