A win for fairness – No Grounds Evictions to end in NSW

The Ending of No Grounds Evictions in NSW is a foundational reform – reinforcing and enabling other tenancy rights such as those related to repairs and maintenance.

We commend the NSW Government for its recent announced commitment and understand that it will soon table draft legislation in the NSW Parliament. We urge all members of the NSW Parliament to move quickly and positively to bring these changes into law and practice.

While we know that this reform will take the heat out of the market and curb some price-gouging behavior, it won’t stop it. Members of the public and tenants are naturally turning their minds to rent increases. We acknowledge the advocacy work of the NSW Rental Commissioner and especially her focus on improving dwelling standards and reducing non-compliance but expect that the issue of better regulating rent increases will grow in prominence.
