Shelter NSW was privileged to sponsor two International Women’s Day events during International Women’s Week.
We kicked off the week by attending the Planning Institute of Australia’s NSW International Women’s Day and Dr Helen Proudfoot Women in Planning Awards. We heard from an excellent keynote speaker, Tabitha Acret, who is a powerful NSW advocate and left a lasting impression on gender disparity and how the legal system reflects that. It was equally inspiring hearing from the two co-winners of the Dr Helen Proudfoot Women in Planning award which highlighted the amazing talent we have in the housing sector here in NSW. The future is looking bright!
We finished the week with the ahi putting on an event focused on leadership led by our formidable Chair, and COO of Bridge Housing, Simone Parsons. She facilitated a thought-provoking panel with key leaders in the sector including Rebecca Pinkstone, Jayde Ward, Jennifer Westacott AO AC, and Debi-Marriott-Lavery. It was fulfilling to hear discussions on accessibility and equity from these leaders as well as the future leaders in the room.
We have so many wonderful women in our sector and we wouldn’t have made the number of advances we have without them. Another shout-out goes to the Two Good Co. – co-located with Shelter NSW at Yirranma Place – supporting, empowering, and employing women with lived experience of homelessness, domestic violence, and complex trauma, and training them to become skilled hospitality professionals.
We hope all women in our network had a wonderful International Women’s Day and that the work of women in your life can be appreciated not just one week in March, but all year round.
