National Shelter has announced the appointment of Jackson Hills as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking an important step for the organisation as it continues to advocate for better housing outcomes across Australia. Welcome Jackson!
Jackson’s appointment comes at a critical time following the Australian Government’s recent decision to reinstate funding for national housing and homelessness peak bodies, including National Shelter. This funding recognises the critical role of national peak bodies, and will assist in rebuilding capacity for research, policy development and sector coordination after years of unfunded policy analysis and advocacy – of which Jackson himself was a key part in his previous role at QShelter as Manager of Strategic Policy & Engagement.
National Shelter plays a unique role in housing policy development, bringing together the voices of frontline services, academics, the not-for-profit sector, industry, and people with lived experience, which it uses to provide evidence-based advice to all levels of government – but particularly at the national level.
Jackson brings extensive experience across the housing and community sectors, and a long history of involvement with the Shelter network. His appointment comes at a time when housing affordability pressures are intensifying across the country – along with calls for ‘supply-at-all-cost’ which we know does very little to deliver benefits to people living on lower incomes. The need for evidence-based, strong, coordinated national leadership is greater than ever.
Shelter NSW looks forward to continuing to work with CEO Jackson Hills and the broader Shelter network to strengthen the national housing policy agenda and push for solutions that deliver safe, secure and affordable housing for people living on low incomes.
