Last month’s initial Australian Bureau of Statistics Census 2021 provided some very interesting data for our sector. Across Australia there are 2.8 million rental households, accounting for more than 30 per cent of the population. NSW exceeds this with 32.6% of the population renting, up from 30.8% in 2016. Such a large cohort deserves far greater attention we believe – with issues ranging from tenancy insecurity, physical housing standards, energy resilience and affordability deserving greater focus (though as yet unmatched by changes in government policy).
