Regional Plan Reviews to 2041

Submissions, submissions, submissions

Regional Plans have been progressively reviewed over the past year or so by the Department of Planning with visions through to 2041. We have made (and are in the process of making) submissions on each Regional Plan to date, with the draft Far West Regional Plan 2041 yet to be exhibited.

Submissions on the Department of Planning’s draft North Coast Regional Plan 2041 closed two weeks ago and, in our submission, Shelter made sure to outline some recommendations to strengthen the focus of safe, secure, and affordable housing in the Plan. We placed emphasis on the need for social infrastructure – such as social and affordable rental housing – to be located well above the Flood Planning Level and closer to the Probable Maximum Flood Level in light of worsening climate hazards and the acute housing crisis being experienced in many North Coast towns.

Earlier this week, we similarly put in a submission on the draft Riverina Murray Regional Plan 2041 and included a slew of recommendations to tackle surge workforce accommodation challenges in the region. As always, we have called for an ambitious increase to social housing stock (at least 10% of all dwellings, region-wide) to be specifically outlined in the Plan.

The draft South East & Tablelands Regional Plan 2041 is currently on exhibition through until 23 September. Any Shelter NSW members who may have suggestions for what our submission to the Southern Planning Team should include, please send through your thoughts to our Policy Officer, Kayla Clanchy (kayla@shelternsw.org.au) by COB Monday 19 September.
